GUIDE MERIDIAN NEIGHBORHOOD
Bellingham’s Guide Meridian neighborhood is a bustling business and educational center for Whatcom County and beyond. Guide Meridian Street is a major thoroughfare, providing easy connections to Bellingham to Ferndale, Lynden, and the Canadian border.
The Guide Meridian is a major destination for shopping. Though Bellis Fair Mall is actually located further south on “the Guide,” other shopping centers have sprung up within the neighborhood’s boundaries. Retailers Costco, Best Buy, Michael’s, and Bed Bath and Beyond form one major shopping area, while Wal-Mart is located across the street. Numerous restaurants are also found here—from American diners to Thai food, taste buds are tempted both by recognizable chains and unique local offerings.
Cordata Parkway is also a part of the Guide Meridian neighborhood, and several offices are located in this green, tree-lined suburban business park. Madrona Medical Group makes its home on Cordata, and T-Mobile and Comcast also have major customer service centers here. Families have discovered the ease of living in this area, and new town homes and condominiums especially are flourishing. Upscale senior assisted living facilities are also available.
Students who live in the Guide Meridian attend Sunnyland Elementary, Shuksan Middle School, or one of two nearby high schools—Bellingham High School or Squalicum High School.
Whatcom Community College is a major presence in the Guide Meridian neighborhood, providing higher learning opportunities to over 7,100 full-time and part-time students. Many students choose to live near the College in conveniently located apartments and condominiums. Whatcom Transportation Authority’s newly built Cordata Station makes travel easy, affordable, and ecologically conscious.
