PUGET NEIGHBORHOOD
If you like living in the center of it all, Puget might be the Bellingham neighborhood for you. With easily accessible shopping, businesses, schools, and recreation, the people who live here are near their every need. Many of the homes here are well-maintained single-family homes on neat, medium lots, all within walking or easy driving distance of shopping and other conveniences.
Along Lakeway Drive, retailer Fred Meyer anchors a shopping center on one block, while Cost Cutter Grocery is across the street. Both these areas are home to many small local restaurants and services, from Lakeway Teriyaki and Cruisin’ Coffee to Escape Day Spa and Bellingham Dry Cleaning.
For those who enjoy sports and recreation, Puget is a fantastic place to call home. Civic Stadium hosts Western Washington University’s soccer games, and other sporting events take place there throughout the year. Next door to the Stadium, the Bellingham Bells (our local baseball club) play at Joe Martin Stadium. Also located in the same block, the Arne Hanna Aquatic Center is a local favorite for children, who enjoy swimming lessons and waterslides. Fields outside the Aquatic Center are home to impromptu soccer games and Ultimate Frisbee. The Bellingham Sportsplex is a great place for ice-skating and hockey games, and indoor soccer teams play there throughout the year.
The eastern portion of the neighborhood is a popular place for students at Western Washington University. The Lincoln Creek Park-and-Ride allows commuters to easily catch a quick bus up to campus, and many student-friendly apartments sprung up near the Park-and-Ride as a result.
Elementary-aged kids from the Puget neighborhood go to Carl Cozier Elementary School, while young teens attend Kulshan Middle School. Older students go to nearby Sehome High School.
