CORNWALL PARK NEIGHBORHOOD
Named for the 70-acre woodland park it surrounds, Bellingham’s Cornwall Park neighborhood is an easy, charming place to call home. It is characterized by distinctive, elegant residences on wide-open, green spaces. Among the most famous residences is the stately Roeder Home, an architectural marvel built in 1903 and now maintained by Whatcom County Parks and Recreation. Conveniently close to shopping along Meridian Street to the north, the neighborhood remains calm and pleasant in its park atmosphere.
Cornwall Park itself is a popular community treasure for all of Bellingham’s residents. A playground area is buzzing with children year-round, and a small water park offers a cool-down for kids and grownups alike on hot summer days. Groups love to utilize the grassy fields for Ultimate Frisbee and soccer games, and joggers and walkers find plenty of wooded trails to explore throughout the park. A nine-hole course, weaving its way though the park grounds, has also made Frisbee Golf quite popular. With tennis and basketball courts added to the mix, the recreational opportunities are endless.
St. Joseph’s Hospital is located in Cornwall Park, along with several other medical facilities which have grown up around it. A regional leader in heart, cancer and senior care, St. Joe’s is one of the largest employers in the county and a proud part of the Whatcom community.
Children attend the neighborhood’s Parkview Elementary. Middle-school students attend Whatcom Middle School, while high-schoolers go to Bellingham High School.
