SOUTH HILL NEIGHBORHOOD
Bellingham’s South Hill neighborhood is one of the most sought-after places to live in Whatcom County. With undisturbed views of Bellingham Bay, the San Juan Islands, and the Canadian coastal mountains, people have a tendency to move here and never leave, making these homes a hot commodity when they do become available. Many of these homes were built in the early 1900’s, and though they vary in style and size, they are nearly all immaculately maintained. Condominiums are a recent addition to the neighborhood, mostly along State Street, allowing even more people to take in the sparkling water view.
Boulevard Park, a long narrow waterfront park along Bellingham Bay, is a preferred destination for people all over the county, but especially for people who live nearby. The rocky shore offers kids lots to explore, and the playground equipment is always busy with small children. Frisbee is a popular pastime in the park, as is simply lying down on a blanket with a good book and a latte courtesy of Woods Coffee. The park sets a perfect stage for fiery sunsets over Bellingham Bay each evening.
People who live in the South Hill neighborhood enjoy much more than their spectacular views, however—they also love their location. Near Bellingham Bay, Downtown, Fairhaven, and Western Washington University, South Hill residents are never far from great restaurants, entertainment, recreation and employment… if they can force themselves to leave their comfortable homes.
Children from the South Hill neighborhood attend Lowell Elementary, Fairhaven Middle School, or Sehome High School.
